COP21 agreement and the future of climate change
What will Canada do if the USA does not reduce greenhouse gas emissions and honour the COP21 Paris agreement? MK Nature Design is not sure.
In Dec 2015 the COP21 agreement was signed in Paris and many countries agreed to try to limit climate warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. What is the future of this agreement?
I am a little jaded and sad. I see the elections in the USA taking place and realize that none of the runners for President are truly climate change supporters. What then is the future of the COP21 agreement in the USA. It will not be honored. Many in other countries will be dislocated from their homes due to flooding or drought and in the USA little or nothing will be done to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the effects of climate warming. Canada is strongly stating that it will be honoring the COP21 agreement and has included incentives for solar investments in the 2016 budget and a section on emissions trading.
In other countries, steps will be taken to respect the COP21 agreement because people in those countries are already being affected by floods or drought. The USA is only being affected by severe weather and the flooding of the coasts is just starting to be an issue.
Canada, I believe, will try to honor the COP21 Paris agreement but will need encouragement if the USA does not honor it. Therefore we have to keep vigilante and keep on making our voices heard. Sign petitions regarding climate change now!
It is up to the people to raise their voices again in support of COP21 and climate change supporters. What does this mean? It means that if in Canada the government does not act as quickly as you would like and in the USA they ignore climate warming, then it is up to us, the people, to sign petitions and force the governments to respect climate change supporters and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The only way to do this is to speak up with petitions like the ones set up by David Suzuki Foundation or Greenpeace. Therefore sign petitions that you see on the internet and signup for emails that will keep you aware of whats happening with climate change. We have a responsibility towards future generations, that means our children, and we have a responsibility towards people already being affected by floods and droughts. It is not only the polar bear that is suffering, people are suffering too.
There will be a meeting of countries in May 2016 in Nairobi Kenya of the United Nations Environmental Assembly (UNEA) and it will be called UNEA2. Environmental ministers from all over the world will meet to discuss climate issues. This was organised by the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP). These meetings take place every two years. Information about the UNEA2 can be found here. This meeting is scheduled to begin May 23 2016. Please keep your eyes open for news on this meeting since it will affect the whole planet. The momentum achieved at COP21 Paris cannot stop there. We must continue to fight climate change.
Stand up! Unite! Let your voice be heard! Sign petitions! Stop climate change!
