The Short Eared Owl

short eared owlMK Nature Design is pleased to release her final Short Eared Owl.  It is a pastel painting on U-Art paper.

The short eared owl is an open-country hunter.  It’s a widely distributed owl and often seen in daylight.  No ear tufts can be seen.  The black rimmed yellow eyes in a pale face makes it distinct.  This bird hunts over grasslands especially at dusk or at dawn.  She hunts small mammals and birds. Summer habitat reaches to Alaska and the Yukon but not the Arctic archipelago.  Year round range lies mainly in the northern USA and some places in South America.  The winter range runs all the way down to the Mexican border.  This time MK Nature Design found her information on the Cornell University site for Ornithology.

  1. Thanks for the likes feynman and My Raphael’s Legacy. It means a lot to me to get likes. It means you appreciate my hard work. This owl was a bit of a challenge since I am using a new technique with a new type of paper. Also I wanted the focus on the face and not the rest of the body. Thank you for liking it!

  2. Thanks for the like Arlene. It lightens my heart to know that people like my art. It makes me want to paint some more. Next is a cardinal in the snow probably!
